Epic Games through a PlayStation 5 demo, announced the next iteration of its game engine, Unreal Engine 5. The company tried to show via the demo what the next-gen game consoles are truly capable of once there is full access to creative tools by the developers so that they can reach their greatest potential with the latest available hardware and software baked into Sony’s PS5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X.
Well, the graphics are pretty cool as Epic Games pushes itself beautifully to go beyond the boundaries! One would agree that it’s taxing to build high quality games since it requires enormous cost and time. One needs to put efforts to make the developer’s job easier.
A demo running on a developer version of PS5 hardware capturing the output to showcase what the UE5 is capable of. Epic assures that its latest tools will deliver amazing visual quality along with the detail and photorealistic lighting. What UE5 will be working on immediately is to help the developers in terms of developing a holistic gaming experience where the products can exist anywhere from PCs to smartphones.
Each generation introduces a new set of problems you don’t have to worry about. We’re trying to remove the content scalability content problem from this generation
“You can build a high-end console game and it can look fantastic and you can also make it work on smartphones, and you can build an audience far bigger than just the hardcore gaming audience by shipping it on more platforms,” he adds, referencing Epic Games Fortnite.
The company says that UE5 will support next and current-generation consoles, PCs, Mac, iOS, and Android once it’s fully launched in the year 2021. To ensure that UE5 doesn’t fail to adapt and utilize the upcoming PlayStation’s architecture, both Sony and Epic Games are closely working for a few years now. The latest pair of technologies coming up with UE5 are Lumen and Nanite.
Nanite’s function is to virtualize geometry by automatically generated geometrical details that one can see while playing the game It’ll resemble the kind of quality which is required for producing films, which is so amazing! Nanite would facilitate the developers to create highly detailed environmental assets in less time, making their work easier. Lumen is the company’s new dynamic global illumination tool which will enable the artists to create more dynamic scenes like changing the sun angle, switching on a flashlight, etc.
Epic further adds that it’s planning to make amends in the business model and that the new model would permit all the developers to keep all the royalties for the first $1 Million in the sales generated. Well, we’re not finished here, since, in addition to this, the company is finally launching its Epic Online Services platform, the multi-platform, and game management toolset is built specifically to operate Fortnite.
The announcement for the same was made in late 2018. Now, let,s talk about what this platform has to offer. It takes all of that technology — specifically the cross-platform matchmaking and account management tech that lets Fortnite accounts move and play between mobile, console, and PC — and gives it out for free. It will operate as a single software development kit, and it’s available today for all major consoles, Mac, and PC, with mobile to come soon.
